Week 4: Hate Speaking and Race

Went to friend's house after internship to chill. Headed out to the new Home Plate Bar on campus for the Celtics vs. Heat. Pretty nice place to hang out. After, we were off to the Hate Speaking event about racial discrimination and gender biases...Very entertaining performances and interesting discussions with fellow students.

Great Campus Race on Saturday morning. We were given 11 clues and need to solve 10 of them in order to figure out the places we need to get to on campus. It took us a little too long to figure out the clues. By the time we took pics in three of the checkpoints, about like 8 groups were done. We were like:"Alright, we're done."

Weeks 3: Pronto Weekend

Week 3's weekend was very educational and fun. I went to the 2nd Annual Pronto Conference. It's supposed to enhance your interpersonal and social interaction skills, interview techniques, starting and maintaining relationships...

Everyone had to dress semi-professionally. Going into the first night of the conference, I thought it would be boring and heavily lecture-based workshops. It was actually very fun and interactive.

We had Robert Epstein as our speaker that night. First thing he said after he was introduced was:"I'm going to need some volunteers." Turned out that the volunteers had to do a very awkward exercise. I was glad that I didn't decide to volunteer. Then Dr. Epstein says:"That was only the first part of the exercise, now it's your turn."

I was like:"Aww man." The exercise was called Soul Gazing. Although it was one of the most awkward things I've ever done, it was actually not as bad once you get comfortable. Dr. Epstein had done some pretty cool research on relationships. I wish I would've taken his interpersonal relationships class that made it on TV last spring. Too bad he's not teaching anymore. After the workshop, we bounced to the Loft for some desert and drinks. Met some cool people there.

Day 2's highlight was the etiquette luncheon. Everyone at my table was just like me and had no idea what all the spoons, forks and knives do. Fun times learning together.

Sunday was the last day. Pronto Conference came to an end after a morning of fun/educational workshops. After that, I went to a Chinese restaurant with some of the friends I met on the first night of the Conference. Turns out another friend of mine was eating at the same restaurant. She thought she made me feel awkward, but I was just surprised and didn't know how to react. I was actually pretty happy to see her 'cause it's been a while.

Anyway, had a great time with the cool people I met.

Rain

It's been raining hard for the past few days in LA and SD. Today, I decided to take a little break from my work and go get some snacks from the Sunshine market.

Unbeknownst to me, the entrance/exit of Geisel was flooded. So I'm just standing there watching this one Asian dude trying to get into Geisel by walking on benches and trash cans along the entrance, and I was LOLing; he could have easily gone up the stairs to the 3rd floor then back down.

Geisel staff tried to unclog the drains, but wasn't working that well. So they started putting weakass tiny sandbags to prevent water from coming in. Flood cleared up when I got off work though. Fun day.

Derek Fisher Book Signing

I was so excited for tonight's book signing event at Barnes and Noble with Fisher. Event starts at 7pm, we were like 10 minutes late. Long ass line, and I didn't have Fisher's book with me. I thought I could buy it there, nope, sold out.

I waited in line anyways, and it turned out that there were a few extra books on the shelves behind Derek Fisher. So I bought one of them and had it signed by Fish and shook his hand.

Security guard:"no pictures, please."

"aww come on"

"no pictures."

"come one it won't hurt."

"Gotta put away your camera."

"..."

Me:"Hey how's it going?"

Fisher:" Good how are u?"

Me:"Good."

Not long before I turned 21, I went to vegas with my parents during spring break.

BEST TRIP EVER!

I sat down at a poker table at Planet Hollywood at around 1 am. And quickly I noticed the girl sitting two seats away across from me looks VERY familiar. Not wanting to look like a fool, I did not say anything. So this other guy sitting next to the girl asked: "Hey are you from the TV show The Office?" She said: "Yea."

I was like omg, it's really her. I had to say something:" Yea, you are Pam, right?" She's like "yea." Of course I knew she was Pam, Jenna Fischer from my favorite TV show The Office.

I can't believe I sat at the same table with Pam from The Office. Anyway, I lost all my money with kings against this old guy with aces.

After spacing out for a few minutes sitting at the table, I walked over to Pam and asked for a picture. She looked at the dealer and said:"sure, but im not sure if they allow pictures in the casino though." I was like: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

"I'm not gonna say anything." said the dealer.

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

So I took a picture with her, but it was a little too

dark, so I asked for another one. Pam was so nice that she asked a dude from the poker table to take another picture for us.

I said:"Thank you." Pam:" You're welcome, oh, and I'm really sorry about the kings, it was sooo close." I nodded and smiled, then left.

Stupid thing was, I was so happy I took a picture with her that I forgot to save the 2nd (the better one) picture. DOH!!!

[Random] Jeans and Shorts

I walk around campus and notice something kind of interesting: 90% of the people wear jeans!
What the heck is up with that? I'm not hating the people who wear jeans, but almost 9 out of 10 people I see have jeans on; and if I just look at people from their waist down, everyone will pretty much look the same because they all have jeans on.

Personally, I like wearing shorts, jeans feel too tight on me.

Another thing I notice, girls wear the shortest shorts no matter what weather.
I remember this one cold day, this girl had a big sweater on and walking with her arms crossed, but wearing very short shorts. I don't know how girls are able to stand the cold.

But hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining at all, just saying. LOL

Warren Live 2008

Our 3rd annual Warren Live Concert at UCSD Featured Saosin, William Tell from Something Corporate, and Bedford Grove. It was cool 'cause I got to be part of me. NO, I didn't sing, I volunteered to help out for the concert.

The night before the concert, we had transfer bike racks from the gym to where the stage will be. Man carrying the bike racks was a bitch! They are not that heavy, but there were only four of us there. We needed about 30 bike racks, so...yep.

After that, we had something more fun to do - shopping for the bands. Basically we just went to Ralph's and shopped on a budget. It was fun picking and choosing.

Morning of the day of the concert, had to carry portable stages and get them set up for the Tech people. The stage set up was cool, it is basically just the back part of a truck, and it just unfolds, freaken tight! Setting up the bike racks for the backstage, was again a bitch because apparently connecting the bike racks is not as easy as it looks. It's pretty confusing to explain.

Fast forwarding to the concert...

It was fun. They are all pretty good. I got autographs from Saosin on my shirt, and also took a picture with William Tell. I heard that some bands are assholes, but they were totally cool people.

After the concert, we cleaned up and put everything back in place. Then I got to do the one thing that I've always wanted to do: drive one of those little golf carts, LOL. It was so fun driving that little cart, haha.

So glad I volunteered for the concert.
Oh and did I mention that I got a free CD from Saosin?

[Random] UCSD Price Center Expansion and Exclusive Access!

Price Center is the place where food places like Subway, Panda Express, Rubios...are located, and also our bookstore, ballroom, blah blah blah...

One day after class, my friend and I decided to eat at Price Center, because I was tired of the food from the cafeteria near my dorm.

Some background: Price Center Expansion is basically a project to make the Price Center in UCSD bigger.

They opened up part of the Extension for us to go inside. First impression? It's freaken huge! It's really nice and big. We went through all 4 floors, and the whole time we were just like: "Damn! Fuck! WOW! Dang, that's nice!..."

Then, we saw this door on the corner of the 4th floor. We opened the door, and saw stairs. We were like: "There's another floor?"

Those were stairs that lead to the roof of the Price Center Extension. The view was great up there! We could see many major lecture halls/buildings in UCSD.

I don't think we were allowed to go onto the roof, but I'm glad we did.

I climbed on a ladder on the roof, and this is what I saw:No way I was going up there without any safety equipments. If you slip up there, you would probably just slide off the building and down to the ground. It's literally the roof of the building.

[Random] Short Movie Review: Juno

Watched the movie called Juno today. It's a movie about this girl named Juno, 16 years old, who gets pregnant with her best friend. She decides to give the child to a married couple who desperately want a child. That's basically the whole story. It's pretty funny and touching, so, watch it if you have time.

Juno MacGuff: I'm losing my faith in humanity.
Mac MacGuff: Think you can narrow it down for me?
Juno MacGuff: I guess I wonder sometimes if people ever stay together for good.
Mac MacGuff: You mean like couples?

Houston Rockets got owned by the Spurs, 109-88. Even if they make the playoffs, as much as I want them to win, it is pretty safe to say that they won't get pass the first round. Another disappointing year for the Rockets.

Do you guys go on Youtube a lot? Sometimes? Once in a while?

If you've ever been on Youtube, chances are you've probably seen some of the most random videos on there.

I was on Youtube one day, and they show videos that are currently being watched. So I click on one of them, and then I see this girl sitting in front of the camera. She waves her hand and smiles at first, and after that, she just does some facial expressions, shows the peace sign...

I was expecting her to talk, sing, or do a magic trick or something...but no, she never says a word in the video.

Amazingly, some of her videos get over a million views. I don't get it, LOL. This is insane. She basically does nothing in the video.
Or, maybe I just don't have the artistic ability to appreciate what she does in the video.

[NBA] Tracy Mcgrady's Curse?

It is Tracy Mcgrady's 4th year playing with the Houston Rockets. However, due to injuries, Yao and Mcgrady never got to play together on the court as much as they wanted to.

Never made pass the first round of playoffs, Mcgrady had high hopes coming to the Rockets playing with Yao. Mcgrady seemed to be cursed or something, despite their good plays in the playoffs against the Dallas Mavericks in 04-05 season, and against the Utah Jazz in 06-07 season, they were knocked out of the first round in 7 games in both matchups.

This season, the Rockets hired a new coach Rick Adelman, who's a very offensive minded and should help the Rockets with their already good defense.

They also had a 22-game winning streak this seaon, winning the last 10 in the streak without Yao, which is the 2nd longest winning streak in NBA history.

Good things don't last, Yao is out for the rest of the season with a foot injury.
But if the Rockets can play good team basketball consistently, they should be able to secure a playoff spot in the west.

Can Tracy Mcgrady carry the Rockets pass the first round of the playoffs without Yao?

[How To] Cool Fingerlock Trick

Steps

Ask for a volunteer to bring their two hands together, fingertip against fingertip.
Get them to bend the middle fingers of each hand towards the palm.
Place a coin between the tips of their ring fingers.
Hold their ring fingers (and the coin) with your fingertips. While keeping this position, ask them to successively separate the tips of their thumbs, index fingers, and pinkies. They should manage this fairly easily.
Tell them to separate the tips of their ring fingers so that they are able to drop the coin. At this point remove your fingers from their ring fingers. Make sure they keep their middle fingers folded down, and their palms completely together. Voilà, they are now in the fingerlock. Watch them struggle in frustration. They will get the feeling their ring fingers are locked or glued together.

Or maybe you like the live version of the song on youtube more than the cd version of it?

Ever wonder how you can get songs from youtube?

On today's post, I'll give you a step by step guide on how to download your favorite songs from Youtube. Let's get started!

Getting the video:

1. Get the latest version of Mozilla Firefox Browser here: Firefox Homepage

2. Install Firefox.

3. Run Firefox, and go to Firefox's extension page here: Firefox Addons

4. Search for "Video DownloadHelper", or get it here

5. Click "Install Now", and make sure you restart Firefox after installing the Addon.

6. Now, go to Youtube with Firefox, search for the music video you like and go to the video page.

7. You should see an icon moving around next to the address bar like this:

8. Click on the "down arrow" next to the animating icon (if more than one options appear, click the top one. A download will start, just specify where to save the file. I like to save it on the desktop for convenience.

Now you have the video in Flash format! (.FLV extension)

Extracting the Music From the Video:

9. Download AoA Audio Extractor Here.

10. Run AoA Audio Extractor, then drag and drop the video you've downloaded into the white box of the Extractor.
11. Check the "To mp3" option, and click browse to specify where you want your mp3 to be saved (I usually pick desktop, again, for convenience).

12. Click the BIG "Start" button.

You're done! It should take about a minute for the program to finish extracting.

Open the mp3 file and ENJOY!
